Operations Manager - Short Term Family Housing

Hillcrest Children & Family Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the provision of comprehensive, evidence-based mental health services in Washington, DC. We are committed to fostering community awareness, eliminating systemic barriers, and delivering compassionate, high-quality care to individuals navigating housing challenges.
The Operations Manager oversees building maintenance, safety, and contractor coordination. This role ensures the physical environment remains safe, functional, and compliant with regulations. Rapid response to maintenance issues is critical in a 24/7 housing environment serving families with children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct regular walk-throughs to ensure the facility meets local health, safety, and building codes which may include fire drills and emergency preparedness
- Manage relationships with external contractors for repairs, HVAC maintenance, pest control, and janitorial services
- Monitor the operational budget for the project
- Responsibility for resident safety.
- Working knowledge of DC building codes, ADA requirements, and OSHA safety standards
- Ensure rooms are cleaned, repaired, and restocked immediately after a resident departs
- Coordination with multiple vendors
- Prevent disruptions, ensure compliance, and maintain a stable living environment
- Rapid problem-solving in crisis situations
- Work outside of standard business hours, through on-call rotation, to assist or manage participant crisis
- Manage high-stress caseloads and maintain continuity of care for families during critical stabilization periods.
Qualifications:
- High School or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Facilities Management, Human Services, or a related field preferred
- 1-3 years professional experience working in a non-profit or residential setting, behavioral health or housing program.
- 1-3 years experience working directly with people in a service-oriented field such as property management, hotel operations, or apartment leasing is beneficial.
- A sound understanding of mental health, housing requirements, and behavioral health programs
- Reliable transportation for community-based visits is required
