Psychiatrist

Position Description:

The Psychiatrist will be responsible to provide outpatient psychiatric services to clients of Hillcrest Children and Family Center. Hillcrest utilizes both adult and child psychiatrists in the provision of these services. The position requires flexible and ability to changing work demands. Although most of the work is clinic based, psychiatrists may be asked to provide services in other settings in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Psychiatrist will provide the following services.

  • Performs psychiatric diagnostic assessment and patient centered treatment planning
  • Performs best practice psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatment and management of acute and chronic psychiatric disorders including substance abuse disorders
  • Monitors psychiatric medications prescribed and their side effects including attention to co-morbid medical conditions
  • Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team in treatment planning and implementation of treatment plans including coordination of services, complying with admission, transfer and discharge criteria requirements
  • Provides psychiatric consultation to other members of the treatment team
  • Writes FD-12 and/or “522” orders for involuntary status and completion of “periodic review” for committed consumers
  • Provides testimony in court regarding psychiatric services and determinations as requested
  • Exercises responsibility for provision of billable services ensuring that clinical documentation is timely, appropriate service authorization is obtained, and services in suspense are reconciled
  • Prepares clinical documentation consistent with agency requirements including documentation of medical necessity and provides timely and accurate completion of documentation in the clinical record
  • Participates in agency quality assurance and quality improvement activities as required
  • Meets provider agency productivity standards for psychiatric services

Qualifications:

  • M.D. degree with a current and unrestricted license to practice Medicine in the District of Columbia
  • Completion of a General Psychiatry Residency Program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and either Board Eligibility or Certification in General Psychiatry
  • Must meet the requirements for Department of Mental Health credentialing.
  • Child Psychiatrists must be Board Eligible
